My 1st day in Canberra

General news Posted on 2007-02-14 20:07

Well I have finally arrived in Canberra, Australia after a very long flight. There were no particular problems i encountered but it did get a bit irritating to keep having to check it and out and clearing customs at each airport. I arrived on Tuesday at 22:00 which was great because I could use some sleep by then. So I seem to be alright, without a jetlag to speak of.

The house is lovely and I have an awesome room! It’s so big! There’s not much stuff in it thus far. My housemates are great people too. As I’ll get my bearings these days, I’m sure I’ll fit right in. I’ve been to the uni today, first to get a bank account and second to say hi at RSES. It’s not very big but i’d say it’s comparable to HPT lab in Utrecht. They have some pretty sweet looking machines too. I met some professors and the dutch post-doc who works there. Everybody is very helpful to the point i sometimes dont know anymore what to say. I hope they are not queuing up favours in return he he. But I suspect that’s just the Australian way. Below is a link to some pictures I took today. Enjoy!!

btw I saw Ayers rock (Uluru) from the plane!!! Wicked!

Visa!!

General news Posted on 2007-01-17 00:56

Unbelievable but true! I got my visa at last! I have made arrangements with ANU that they’ll book a flight for me next week which means I’ll be gone soon! Looks like I better start packing my stuff and prepare for 24 hours of travelling! For any one I know who reads this, we’ll stay in contact and this blog finally will serve for what it was intended to serve for.

Before I leave, expect another post in which I’ll reveal the date, time and location of my departure. I currently dont know yet.

Medical examination

General news Posted on 2007-01-09 06:01

Today I had my medical examination in the radiological clinic for a chest x-ray and with a general practitioner. Funny man, who was so old fashined, he didnt have any digital apparatus! This was in Amsterdam, which wasnt too bad because I was able to sleep over at a friend’s place. It was nice seeing Amsterdam again. I havent been there a lot. The longest time I’ve been in Amsterdam was with Model United Nations, and back then I was still living in Italy. 😉 Apart from the fact that it cost me more than 160 Euro, there were no problems with my health. Not that I expected there to be anything wrong. Processing time could be up to 2 weeks and by that time I should have my visa. I cannot say anything definite yet when I will be leaving so hold your horses 🙂
